Learning Resources Primary Science Kits

Sporting a mini white lab coat each and protective goggles, the girls were dressed the part and totally ready to get experimenting with their brilliant Primary Science kits by learning resources. Bella is so curious about anything and everything at the moment so this activity was right up her street. The girls were sent two different experimenting kits including; Primary Science Lab Kit and Mix and Measure Set.

The Primary Science Lab Set includes 22 pieces including beakers, magnifying glasses, funnel, pipette, flask, tweezers, goggles, test tubes and more. There are also 10 wipe clean activity cards, which give easy to follow instructions to carry out experiments. I love the fact that they are wipeable too, it’s definitely a godsend when you have an eager toddler loose with a test tube full of liquid, not mentioning any names, Flo.

The girls worked nicely together to complete their first ever experiment. The aim was to experiment with colours. They had to fill up the large test tube with water, which Bella did really well and then add a couple of drops of red food colouring. Flo did an excellent job at giving the test tube a good shake.

Next the girls took it in turns to fill up the two smaller test tubes, halfway with water before adding drops of yellow and blue food colouring in the separate test tubes. I didn’t have yellow food colouring so I had to improvise and use green instead. The girls were completely engrossed and mesmerised by the water changing colour.

Using the Pipette the girls then took it in turns to suck up the red water and squirt it into the green water and blue water. They then had to describe what had happened to the colour of the water in each test tube. Both girls were excited to describe the changes in both colours.

Bella was eager to carry on experimenting so we got stuck into the Mix and Measure kit. This set includes; scale, bowl with lid, proportional measuring cups and spoons and 10 wipeable Activity Cards. I just love how hands on this kit is, the possibilities really are endless and Bella had so much fun.

We tried the first experiment card, which encourages your child to think about quantities. Bella had to fill up the bowl with rice and then guess how many yellow measuring cups it would take to fill up the orange cup. She then had to guess how many orange cups it would take to fill up the red cup.

Bella then took experimenting into her own hands and she started to pour the rice into the bigger cups. She really enjoyed the sound of the rice as it tips into each cup and she said it reminding her of the sound of rain. We tried one more experiment and Bella had to fill both the blue and purple cup, up to the top of the line with water.

The Blue cup is tall and thin and the purple cup is smaller and round, she had to guess which cup could hold the most water, she naturally guessed blue. One by one, Bella had to tip the cups of water into the measuring bowl to see which line the water would sit on. She was blown away by the fact that the cups actually held the same amount of water, even though they were different shapes.

We honestly had so much fun with both science kits and I would highly recommend them. They definitely encourage your child to think outside the box. The Primary Science Mix & Measure set is £29.99 and the Primary Science Lab Set costs £28.00, they are worth every penny and are both a great way to encourage your children to learn through play.
